The 59th American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Annual Meeting was held in San Diego, USA, from September 24–27, 2017. The scientific achievement jointly made by Sichuan Cancer Hospital’s Professor Tao Li and colleagues and Genecast was presented in E-poster format (No. 1048) at the conference. A Genecast representative gave a presentation about the poster, sharing news with peers from around the world about the progress that China had made in radiation oncology research. This was the third time this year that the achievement by Genecast and one of China’s leading medical institutions had been presented on an international platform.

Professor Tao Li and his team study patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) who have received radiation therapy. Using NGS techniques, they analyze the varying results of patients following radiotherapy to discover biomarkers predicting treatment effectiveness. Guided by precision medicine, Professor Tao Li and his team carry out prediction and classification processes on the ESCC patients by applying non-invasive, accurate, and efficient methods. So doing, they explore the relationship between radiotherapy efficacy and genetic features in patients, which is of importance in clinical practice.
